Writing is thinking. Skilled writers are sharp thinkers.

At Beacon Street Lab, we help students ages 12-17 become powerful writers and analytical thinkers, equipping them with the intellect, character, and confidence to excel in school, university, careers, and beyond.

ABOUT BEACON STREET LAB

We are dedicated to fostering exceptional writing and critical thinking skills in young learners grades 6-12. Whether they’re budding storytellers, aspiring debaters, students sharpening their academic writing and reasoning abilities, or in the midst of formulating new ideas and projects, our programs are designed to meet them where they are and take their skills to the next level.

We believe writing is more than just a means of communication; it's a powerful tool for analyzing and understanding the world, others, and ourselves. Our rigorous curricula challenge students to think critically, reflect deeply, and express themselves with clarity and purpose.

By inspiring young minds to think big and write boldly, we empower the next generation of thoughtful, articulate, and critical thinkers, ready to make their mark on the world.

ONE-ON-ONE TUTORING

We begin by getting to know the student, their unique background, educational context and objectives. Diagnostic assessments then help us pinpoint their strengths and areas for growth. Based on these insights, we match students with expert instructors and design personalized learning plans to help them achieve their goals.

Tutors meet with students weekly for one-hour sessions, either in person or online. Between sessions, students complete at least thirty minutes of assignments, receiving detailed feedback to guide their progress.

GROUP WORKSHOPS

We design and run small-group writing workshops for students who want to learn and grow together throughout the academic year. Each student is individually assessed using diagnostic tools to inform the workshop's content and composition. Workshops can focus on a wide range of topics, including research writing, poetry, fiction, and journalism, among others.

Workshops meet weekly for one-hour sessions, either in-person or online, with students expected to complete at least thirty minutes of assignments between classes. Instructors provide detailed feedback and encourage peer review to foster collaborative learning. When relevant, students are guided to explore opportunities to publish their work.

2025 SUMMER

CAMPS

Our 2025 summer camps are designed to provide students with intellectual enrichment in a fun, engaging, and challenging learning environment. We begin by understanding each student’s interests and goals, ensuring they are placed in programs that align with their aspirations.

Our one-week camps help students strengthen their writing and critical thinking skills while exploring a variety of writing styles, from creative storytelling to advanced research techniques. Sessions are held in-person in Boston and online.

Through their enriching summer experiences, students can launch new projects, collaborate with peers on creative ventures, or refine their personal ideas and pieces for publication.
